Chrome extension

The everyday web, quietly improved.

A calmer X, on-device AI scores, Inbox-style Gmail, and a wider LinkedIn feed. Each one is a switch.

Free. Runs in your browser. No account.

x.com/home

x.com

A timeline, not a billboard.

Hide the upsells, reclaim the right rail, and open Schedule, Spaces, and Videos from the left nav.

  • DeclutterGrok, Premium, Verified Orgs, Communities, Follow, the right rail, ads, and the floating Grok/Chat buttons — gone.
  • Wider timelineThe column uses the space the right rail wasted, up to about 920px.
  • Schedule, Spaces, and VideosA month view of scheduled posts, a Spaces directory, and a video feed — each added to the left nav.

On device

A score for how AI-written a post is.

Gemini Nano reads the post on your machine and leaves a small badge beside the time. You can hide the ones that cross a line you set.

  • On this deviceChrome’s Gemini Nano rates each post locally. The text is not sent to a server.
  • A badge beside the timeGreen for likely human, yellow for AI-assisted, red for AI-written.
  • Hide what you don’t wantOptionally collapse posts and replies at or above a cutoff. X and LinkedIn today. Facebook is listed, and not scored yet.

LinkedIn

The feed, without the pitch.

Posts sit a little wider. The right rail and the Premium prompts step out of the way. The profile card stays.

  • A wider feedPosts grow to at most 680px. The profile card on the left stays.
  • No right railOn the home feed, puzzles, “Add to your feed,” ads, and the footer under them are removed.
  • No Premium pitchesUnlock, Try Premium, and the Premium link in the top bar go. A Premium badge on someone’s name stays.

Gmail

Inbox, the way you remember it.

Bundles, Done, Pin, and a calmer card list. The mail is still Gmail — it just doesn’t look like a spreadsheet.

  • Inbox layoutAn airy, centered card list with Material-style chrome instead of the dense table.
  • Bundles, Done, PinSocial, Promos, Updates, and Forums as rows. Archive is Done. Star is Pin.
  • Compose FABA blue circle, bottom right. Search, snooze, and keyboard shortcuts stay Gmail’s.

Every page

Small fixes, wherever you are.

Wikipedia, when Grokipedia has the page

If a link points at a Wikipedia article and Grokipedia has it, the click opens Grokipedia. Missing articles stay. wikipedia.org itself is never rewritten.

Force paste

Right-click an editable field and choose Force paste. Copied text is written in even when the page blocks Ctrl/⌘ V.

Cookie banners

Known consent popups, and other fixed banners that read like a cookie notice, are hidden. Accept and Reject are never clicked.

Toolbar

Each upgrade is a switch.

Click the extension icon. Turn each experience on or off. AI scores opens its own page for the badge, the sites, and the cutoff. Defaults on — your call if they stay that way.

  • Independent toggles, remembered in Chrome sync.
  • Scores stay on the device. Post text is not uploaded.

Opinionated. Optional. Local.

better-web is a point of view, not a platform. It restyles pages you already use, stores your choices in the browser, and does not ask you to sign in.

Taste, not settings sprawl

Defaults are chosen. You can turn a whole experience off. You shouldn’t need a control panel to get a calmer tab.

Stays on your machine

No account. The extension does not track you. AI scores use Gemini Nano on device. Privacy

The sites you already use

X, Gmail, LinkedIn, Wikipedia links, Force paste, and cookie banners — one extension.

Make the sites you use every day feel considered.

Install better-web from the Chrome Web Store. Toggle the experiences you want. Browse as usual.
